[outfit_details]Sweater with Lace Collar (wearing XXS), Wool Brown Blazer (Petite 00), White Distressed Jeans (on sale!)
Christian Louboutin Pumps (similar), Leather Monogram Crossbody Bag[/outfit_details]
I’ve been wanting a classic wool brown blazer for years. I remember wanting to get one last year but opted to add another wool peacoat to my wardrobe instead. This year, I made sure to snap one up. My entire look, with the exception of shoes, is on sale! A brown blazer can do wonders for your closet, especially a high-quality one. You’ll be able to wear it so many ways and for years to come. I can’t stress enough how important it is to invest in a nice blazer. Below, I go into detail about what to look for when buying a blazer. This wool brown blazer is currently 30% off with code “NEWNOW” and you can get an extra 15% off if you spend more than $150.
To stray away from the classic blue jeans and a white t-shirt look, I’m going for a slightly dressed-up version. Feel free to swap out my distressed white jeans, which are 20 percent off by the way, for white slacks to make this look work appropriate. I love how white and brown look together, especially transitioning to fall. This merino wool sweater has a feminine lace collar detail, which I love. This camel color sweater is the only one with contrasting lace, though. The other colors have the same color lace as the sweater. It’s also part of the sale mentioned above and I highly recommend!
What To Look For When Buying A Blazer
Not all blazers are created equal. Unfortunately, a cheap-looking blazer can really ruin an outfit. On top of that, it can make you look unprofessional and not up to the job. I understand not everyone has a lot of money to invest in a blazer. However, there are ways to find a good blazer at your price point. You just have to know what to look for.
FABRIC
This is huge. My biggest recommendation is to opt for natural fabrics. My favorite is wool. Also, check the fabric makeup to make sure it has a high wool percentage. Many brands and retailers can get tricky, calling something wool when in reality it is only five or 10 percent wool when you think it is at least 50 percent or more. The brown blazer I’m wearing in this outfit is 98% wool, which is awesome. Thanks to the sale, this blazer is an incredible deal. It’s something you can wear over and over again for years to come so you want something sharp and dependable. Wool is my go-to because it’s breathable and isn’t as wrinkle-prone. Plus, it’s warm, so when temperatures get cold, it’ll keep trap your body heat close to your chest.
Another good fabric to go for is linen. Less expensive than wool and a bit easier to find. However, linen does wrinkle. It’s inevitable. Linen also is known as a spring and summer fabric, so it’s incredibly breathable. Linen blazers are a nice layering piece but do not rely on them for warmth.
To be honest, I would not recommend polyester. That’s not to say there are not nice polyester blazers out there. I own this one and really love it. However, I’ve seen my fair share of cheaply made, awful fitting polyester blazers. I remember ordering quite a few blazers online only for them to arrive and look so bad. You cannot really escape bad fit, stitching and draping when it comes to a blazer. A good away around this is to find a more inexpensive blazer that has a relatively decent fit and take it in for alterations. However, don’t cut off the tags and ask your tailor to give you a quote. If the final cost is pretty close to what it would be to get a nice wool blazer, it’s best to save your money and buy the real deal.
