Oh, that time of year when you’re craving fall temperatures but it reads triple digits outside. Or, the place you call home never actually gets chilly. I’m sharing a transition outfit from summer to fall to help with these problems. This smocked mock neck dress has a summer silhouette but you can easily transition it to fall with a few key pieces. Plus, it’s also workwear appropriate. I love the high neckline and length for work. I’m wearing size Petite XXS and it fits perfectly. There is a small belt you can use to tie the dress in the back, cinching in your waist. I’m wearing the Safari Lake print from the Gibson City Safari Collection but this dress comes in other prints, too.
When creating a transition outfit, think of layers. What are pieces you can put on or take off depending on the weather? Also, are the pieces lightweight enough for summer? You can always add a thicker cardigan or jacket over top but you want to be able to stay cool if the weather is warm.
On its own, this dress is a stunner and has gorgeous summer colors. It’s lined but also lightweight and sleeveless. To help transition outfit from summer to fall a leather jacket is my go-to. It’s easy, a great layering piece and offers a good amount of warmth for late summer into early fall. Plus, if it’s still pretty hot, you can drape it over your shoulders like I am here. Worst case, tie it around your waist, too. Trust me, in this 100-degree Texas heats, true fall outfits are hard to pull off without sweating. This leather jacket is super soft, zips up all the way and is cropped in length. It’s perfect for wearing with dresses or high-waisted jeans because it’s so elongating.
Another way to transition an outfit from summer to fall is a good pair of booties. They can transform a look from summer vacation to transitional fall. These booties are incredibly comfortable. They fit true to size and the leather is so soft. The sole inside has a nice cushion and I can walk in these for hours without discomfort. Plus, I love the lighter color.
Light Colors – Fall Fabrics
Finally, my last way to transition an outfit from summer to fall is to wear fall fabrics in lighter colors. Take note how both my leather jacket and booties are a light gray. Leather is known to be a fall staple but you don’t need to rush in to wearing black so soon. Especially when the weather is so hot. Finding leather jackets, suede items and more in lighter tones make it easy to wear during summer and transition into fall.
