I always believe bedrooms should be a sanctuary for sleep. It’s where you wake up and start your day along with the place you put your head down for bed. For us, we wanted a room that’s serene and an escape from the rest of the home, which is where we’ve been working now with the quarantine. Fortunately, Johnny always lets me do what I want. In my Nebraska apartment, I had all white bedding however, it was pretty feminine. In Virginia and Dallas, Johnny let me incorporate pink into our bedding. He never cared.
Now that we’re in our first home together, I wanted new, bright and simple master bedroom decor. I love the idea of a completely neutral or black and white room where we can relax and unwind after a long day of work.
Our Bed
Sleep is essential for us and the bed is the biggest statement piece in our home. I know there are so many different layers here so I wanted to list everything out. We started with our Leesa mattress because sleep is so important to us. For a full review of our mattress, check out this blog post. We got the Leesa bed frame to coordinate and support our mattress best.
Now for the fun part. We have high ceilings in our new build home, so we needed something tall or we would potentially risk dollhouse looking furniture. I love this tall velvet headboard. It comes in a shorter height, too. You can customize the fabric and color. We got Performance Velvet in Dove Gray and couldn’t be happier!
As I said earlier, we take our sleep seriously. We love these organic cotton fair trade bedsheets (use 20HKCUNG for 20% off) because they are cool to the touch and get softer with every wash, really. They are also easy to maintain. We don’t use the shams that go with the sheet set though because we use these silk pillowcases. It sounds super luxe and I promise it’s worth every penny. I wash on the delicate cycle and tumble dry on low. We have a down-alternative duvet insert that’s super fluffy but not too hot. I love texture on beds, so I got this duvet cover that’s so fun but since it’s white keeps things from getting too busy.
Pillows
Someone once told me pillows are a grown woman’s stuffed animals. I couldn’t agree more. We have three 28×28 inserts that go inside our classic white with black piping euro shams. I looked high and low for these. The ones I originally found were out of my reach price-wise. These are much more affordable and are actually an outdoor fabric! I love how they look in our bedroom. It’s bright, simple and clean. You can also customize the color of the piping and pillow size, too.
To go along with the neutral look, I added with these two lumbar pillows. They are affordable and look great with the rest of our bedding.
Completing the Room
I think a rug really completes a bedroom. We love this one for its more modern and contemporary pattern. It reads a little more yellow and blue in person but adds a nice pop. When choosing a rug for underneath the bed, make sure you take the room into consideration, not just the size of the bed. Since our bedroom here is a bit larger, we went with 8×10 to really fill out the room but allow us to still see the carpet underneath.
