What is your “day” job?
I’m a full-time blogger and content creator and it brings me so much joy to help others find confidence through my blog. Previously, Color & Chic was a side hustle as I was a reporter and anchor for a local TV station. It’s such an adrenaline rush covering breaking news, but I love being able to tell impactful stories. My favorite story I’ve done was on the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. I got fly in the back seat of an F/A 18 fighter and it was the best day of my life. You can watch the GoPro footage below and read about my experience here.
What did you study in college?
I majored in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Texas. While there I also interned at a local TV station and was a fellow at CBS News in New York. Studying at UT really helped prepare me to be a successful journalist.
If you had one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Tailoring your clothes to fit your body! I cannot express how much of a difference this makes. There is nothing wrong with your body, embrace it and work it. It is impossible to expect standard sizes, which were measured out decades ago, to fit every single person perfectly. I alter 90 percent of my clothes and encourage everyone to do so to avoid losing self-esteem over a pair of pants. You’d be surprised the difference a little needle and thread can make.
What is your nutrition and workout plan?
When I was training for Miss USA, I was on a very strict nutrition plan and workout regimen. Now, I eat vegetarian about 90 percent of the time and stay away from greasy foods. I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, grains and plenty of water. Here is a post on my current workout routine. I also do bodyweight exercises too. You don’t have to workout for hours on end to get a healthy body.
How did you meet Johnny? How long have y’all been long distance?
Both of us are very fortunate in that we met through friends. A friend was having a birthday party, invited both of us and we met. There wasn’t a spark right away but once we started to get to know each other we knew we would marry each other. We’ve been long distance the majority of our relationship. The only time we weren’t was when we were in college. Here are a few tips on how we make it work.
