Today is the 43rd Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. It’s the day the Vietnam War ended with the wrong winners and Vietnam became a communist country. However, I don’t say this lightly as human rights in Vietnam are in critical condition, as reported by Human Rights Watch. There is no freedom of speech, press, religion and more. These are all things we take for granted in the United States, too. My Dad fought in the South Vietnamese Army and was captured and put into a concentration camp by the Viet Cong. He raised me to always protect those who can’t protect themselves. Also, my Mom would always tell me about the people, sometimes they were my age, who would stand up and fight for their rights. But they would be constantly intimidated, harassed and imprisoned. Plus, most of the time, their family would face the same.

The Communist Party is the only one allowed, meaning the police and government are corrupt. There is no fairness in the criminal justice system. Bribery goes far. Knowing all of this and understanding there are young boys and girls who have to grow up like this breaks my heart. As a result, this also makes me profoundly grateful to be a citizen of the United States. This is the reason why I became a journalist. To give voice to the voiceless. The U.S. Census reports in 2015, close to 2 million Vietnamese call the United States home. My family and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of that number. Many of you don’t know this, but I started a non-profit organization to raise money to help South Vietnamese wounded veterans and their families in Vietnam. Finally, I couldn’t imagine a more fitting outfit to share on my blog today than this one. My family and I honor the true Vietnamese flag. The yellow flag with three red stripes. The red stripes stand for the blood of the three regions of Vietnam including the north, central and south. Today is also the saddest day of the year for Vietnamese-American refugees. The term Black April is very common to Vietnamese-Americans because this is a painful month for us. My outfit today fits the mood, too. It has yellow in this two-way crop top, which represents our skin. while the black wide-leg pants to signify the somber time.

This yellow two-way crop top really gives you your bang for your buck. You can wear it was a tank with spaghetti straps and tie the fabric in the front with a bow. Or, you can drape the fabric over the shoulders for a cap-sleeve look. Also, I like to tie the bow in the front here, but you can definitely tie it in the back! The floral pattern isn’t too distracting and is perfect for spring and summer. Finally, these black wide-leg pants are simply incredible. With the high-waist fit, these are great for elongating. However, they are so incredibly comfortable. Perfect for traveling, weekends, running errands and even for work, too!
