About a month ago, this cashmere-cotton blend turtleneck sweater came into my life in the form of a winter loungewear outfit. The moment I unboxed it, I knew it would be special and something I could restyle so many ways. I could envision it with casual and workwear pieces. It would be darling with leggings and Nike’s. This year, I want to take the time to share how to properly invest in your wardrobe and how to get more bang for your buck when you’re shopping. I’m very excited to share four easy ways to style a simple turtleneck sweater this winter.
Before we get into the different styling options, I want to go over the fit of this simple turtleneck. I’m wearing size 00 in this sweater and the fit is perfection. Not to mention this sweater is unbelievably soft. It’s stretchy, feels ultra-luxurious but not with an insanely hefty price tag! You really can’t beat it. I love the ecru (white) but it also comes in light pink, camel and navy.
Sweater Set for Work Wear
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know this is easily one of my favorite outfits I’ve ever styled. I love color, but there’s something so effortlessly chic about these neutrals and how they play off each other. The idea of pairing two “sweaters” a sweater up top and a sweater skirt together to create your own set is a favorite of mine. I already had this ribbed midi skirt with a slit in my closet but if you can’t rock this skirt at your office, check out this one, which I just got in black. To help master tucking your sweater into skirts or other bottoms, I highly recommend checking out Spanx-style short underwear. Tuck your sweater into this and then pull your skirt over top for a seamless look. This without a doubt tops the four easy ways to style a simple turtleneck sweater.
To keep the rest of the look streamlined but still add some personality, I went with all black accessories. These sheer polka dot tights are one of my favorite winter accessories and you can catch me in them quite frequently. They add a little something without being over the top. A frequent question I get usually involves comfortable work shoes. These black heels are my go-to pair for when I want a sleek and sharp look but some comfort. You can use code HKCUNG60 to get $60 off your first purchase. I can last about four to six hours in these before any real pain, which is a lot for a heel this high!
Athleisure in Action
Heading to and from the gym? Running errands and want to look chic? Perhaps you’re grabbing a quick coffee with a friend. Regardless of where you’re heading, nowadays, athleisure is a go-to and extremely appropriate. However, there are ways to elevate your look so you aren’t just in a Nike logo hoodie and matching kicks (not that anything is wrong with that). Styled with super soft and stretchy leggings in a pretty hue, this cashmere-cotton blend sweater creates a luxe sporty look. These leggings are what I reach for when I want to get a good workout in and be comfortable. Plus, they come in tons of colorways.
To keep everything sleek, go with black accessories, including my favorite pair of hybrid sneakers. I love these for working out because they are so comfortable, but also wearing with dresses, skirts and in “real life” around town. They don’t just belong in the gym. Make sure you have everything you need with a bucket bag and keep those eyes protected with oversized sunglasses.
Win in Wide-Leg
Growing up, I would associate wide-leg pants with the pants accompany the traditional Vietnamese long dress, called Áo dài. I used to hate wide leg pants but about five years ago, I completely changed my mind! Nowadays, I think wide-leg pants make for a winning look whether you’re heading into the office or for a night out. Before we move any further, I want to say these crepe wide-leg pants are just as bright in person as they look in pictures. They are a statement and paired with this simple turtleneck, it’s a winning combination. However, I can understand if pink isn’t your color, so these also come in black. The draping and cut of these pants are phenomenal and won’t disappoint. I’m wearing size 0 and the pants did need to be hemmed.
I’m keeping accessories fairly simple so the pants can really shine. This pearl headband is my go-to for bad-hair days or to keep flyaways at bay. I feel like I reach for it a few times a week now. A new addition to my bag collection is this gorgeous bag with a jewelry chain and streamlined quilted leather. I’m 5’3 and can comfortably wear it crossbody!
Casual Chic
If you need to head out the door fast and need to look put together, I can’t recommend this casual chic look enough. Throw a vest over the turtleneck sweater, pull on some lustrous leggings and slip into over-the-knee boots. This look is easy to put together, warm and comfortable. In the day and age where others can look down on wearing leggings, I think it’s important to keep a couple of factors in mind. First of all, these leggings I’m wearing are athletic leggings. They are made to be worn in the gym without anything covering your butt. The fabric is opaque, the seams are sewn well and they will not look weird. If you want to rock the legging look, I encourage you to buy quality leggings that aren’t sheer.
My next tip is to take into consideration the outfit as a whole. Are you just throwing a top on and hoping everything looks good? The shoes you wear, the accessories you style with your outfit can play a key role in elevating your leggings and making them look appropriate and less tacky. For example, my suede over-the-knee boots, which are 60% off right now, dress up my leggings more than say a pair of flats or Ugg-style shoes. My sweater doesn’t hit below my butt, but it does hit about halfway, which helps, too!
