Watching Stars on Ice :: A Former Figure Skater’s Take

Wearing a simple navy blue-button down over a white t-shirt and black slacks, Nathan Chen flies across the ice to a self-choreographed program. The crowd inside the NYCB LIVE’S Nassau Coliseum is entranced by him as he completes his program, set to a song titled “Next to Me” by Otto Knows. This was the third time I’ve gotten to see Nathan skate live and it’s obvious he has gotten better each time.Nathan, along with some of America’s top figure skaters, are on tour with Stars on Ice. The tour will be stopping in 13 cities and bringing world-class figure skating to crowds across the country. As a former figure skater, it’s always a treat to watch skating of this caliber in person. As I mentioned in this previous post, Johnny and I happened to be in New York City the few days before the show’s Long Island stop for work. Figure skating will always be a big part of my life, so I’m excited to share my Stars on Ice experience.

Stars on Ice :: The Skating Show You Have to See

It may come as no surprise Johnny and I are huge figure skating fans. After all, my first real international trip was the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea! I’m excited to share in addition to a lot of work meetings, Johnny and I are heading to New York City to watch Stars on Ice! The United States tour kicks off tonight in Ft. Meyers, Florida and we are very excited to watch the second stop in Long Island. It’s crazy how life works, sometimes. I’ve had a NY trip planned to meet with brands about projects I’m working on. Fortunately, the Stars on Ice tour happens to be in New York the same weekend! To say we are ecstatic would be an understatement.

Valentine’s Day Date and Gift Ideas

Buying a gift for the man in your life can be quite difficult. Every man is different with different tastes and preferences. Johnny isn’t too picky, but I enlisted his help. In this post, we are sharing some Valentine’s Day date and gift ideas to help you (and him) plan your perfect day for this holiday. It doesn’t have to be stressful. Remember, this holiday is about expressing your love to another person. A gift doesn’t have to be grand or expensive. A thoughtful, meaningful gift or experience could mean the world to your significant other.

Figure Skating with Outdoor Voices

Right boot on, then left boot on. Lace up the right skate, then lace up the left. On a crisp fall morning, come with me to Chilled Ponds, a local ice rink where I’m rediscovering my love for figure skating as a 27-year-old grandma (in figure skating terms, ha!)

I spent 11 years of my life figure skating. I pursued it competitively for most of those 11 years and as all good things, it came to an end. Injuries and just not being good enough to continue pursuing it pushed me to work hard toward my other dreams. I’m nowhere near as good as I used to be but figure skating in Outdoor Voices has inspired me to try some of my old tricks – even if it’s awkward, slow or ends in my butt on the ice.

PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics Travel Diary

If you ever get the chance to attend the Winter Olympics, take it! The spirit of countries coming together to witness history, the camaraderie of cheering on your country and the fight of athletes is truly remarkable. The entire world gathers to hear athletes’ stories – of passions ignited, of triumphant moments, of endless sacrifice and unconditional love. It’s something you can feel whether you’re in the arena, at the alpine heights or taking in the host city. Johnny and I feel truly blessed to watch moments when work met victory and love met pride. One of my favorite quotes is from the opening film of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino Italy and I’d like to share it here. “Greatness is born of fearless visions and unconditional devotions.” Here is our PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics travel diary.
