Dyson Airwrap Review: Is It Worth It?

This post is in collaboration with Nordstrom. All opinions are my own.

The Dyson Airwrap is without a doubt a luxury hair tool. For the complete set, it’s $549. My family has relied on the Dyson name for nearly two decades. We are firm believers in their cordless vacuums and air purifiers (read more here) and now I am simply smitten with the Dyson Airwrap. But is it worth it? As someone who curls her hair almost every day and has for about a decade, here is my honest Dyson Airwrap review!

Right off the bat, I will say, if you are looking to gift a luxury hair styling tool, this is it! It would be the perfect gift for someone who either loves to style their hair or looking to take it up a notch. The Dyson Airwrap really gives you volume and beautifully styled hair in less time.

What’s Different about Dyson

Let’s start this Dyson Airwrap review with what sets it apart from similar products! As someone who prefers to air dry my hair to avoid using extreme heat, the Dyson Airwrap wins in this department. I save so much time being able to dry and style my hair in one fell swoop. What can usually take me about two hours to do, now takes maybe 20 minutes! No more waiting for my hair to air dry, then curling it. Or even blow drying it, then curling it. It’s done all at once.

If you are someone who washes their hair frequently or has the need to style wet hair, this will be a gamechanger! It’ll instantly cut down on the time it takes you to get ready. The Dyson complete set also comes with a mini version of their blow dryer, which I’ve heard from friends is absolutely amazing! You’re really getting a lot of variety with the complete set.

Another aspect I really appreciate about the Airwrap is how it doesn’t use extreme heat. I can literally touch the barrel while it’s curling my hair because it’s not burning hot. It’d be great for curling little girls’ hair because you don’t risk burning them.

Using the Airwrap

As any Dyson Airwrap review will tell you, there’s a learning curve to the product. Pay close attention to the directions the arrows are pointing. My pro tip is don’t look straight at the arrows when you’re holding them. Hold them up in the mirror. You want the arrows to point away from your face as that is the direction the air will wrap your air. You want your curls to go away from your face, not toward it.

I prefer soft curls, so I almost exclusively use the curling barrels. I love the 1.2″ barrels as they provide a beautiful curl that isn’t too tight. You want to use small sections – don’t get lazy. Small sections work best and will give you a nice curl. I hold the Airwrap about half an inch away from the hair and turn it on. I slowly pull the Airwrap toward my head to curl my hair. Once I get it near my roots, I change the setting to cool air to set the curls. Using a cool shot for about five seconds will really set your curls and help them hold all day!

If you don’t want to switch barrels, you can theoretically hold it upside down on the other side to get the same effect. I’ll say this is a bit trickier for me and I prefer to use both barrels.

The Cost

Yes, the Dyson Airwrap is expensive. However, Dyson spends millions of dollars on research and development for their products and knowing this makes justifying the hefty price tag easier. We’ve never had any issues with any of the Dyson products we have and that in itself is a testament. You could theoretically buy a blow dryer and curling iron, round brush, etc. but like I said earlier, there is no tool like this on the market. Especially if you want something that will actually curl your hair.

This isn’t for everyone. However, if you really need to shrink the time you spend styling your hair and you want to avoid using extreme heat, this is definitely something you should consider investing in.
