Summer’s Arrival :: Strapless Gingham Dress & Tassel Earrings

Summer doesn’t officially arrive for a few weeks, but I am already in my summer mode. Is it really a weekend in Coastal Virginia if you don’t visit the beach? If I go to the beach, I’m a fan of simple and effortless dresses doubling as cover-ups. This red strapless gingham dress is a great piece for summer because it’s so versatile. There are cute buttons down the front, which make it easy for this dress to go on and off. I will add, this dress can be short if you are not petite. I’m 5’3 and as you can see this hits mid thigh. I wouldn’t recommend this for ladies who are taller than 5’6. However, for someone who is vertically challenged like me, this red gingham dress is just perfect and no alterations are needed. I really like how this dress is tiered since it breaks up the gingham print, which can get monotonous.

Little Gingham Dress

I miss sunny days in Coastal Virginia including the day I shot this spring look. It’s still one week from officially arriving, but I could use it right now, ha! I love simple pieces you can dress up or down during spring and summer. Similar to my chambray romper, this black and white gingham dress is a piece you can just throw on and head out the door. The surplice neckline has a hook and eye closure, so everything will stay in place. Plus, the straps on this little gingham dress are adjustable, which is great for petite ladies. The ruffle detail is my favorite aspect of this dress. It’s flirty and feminine yet isn’t over the top. I love how it follows the wrap silhouette too.

Cable Knit Sweater & Paper Bag Mini Skirt

Hey Y’all! This is so crazy there are only a few days left in 2017! I’m so ready for 2018 to arrive and for all the exciting things I have planned. It’s much colder in Dallas than I had anticipated. I’m living in cozy sweaters so I love being able to tuck them into a cute skirt such as this gingham paper bag mini skirt. I love a good gingham piece for fall and winter because you can restyle them so many ways. This gingham paper bag mini skirt would be chic with any color blouse or sweater. Sadly, this skirt sold out. However, this is a super similar version and looks so cute on. The paper bag trend is actually quite chic if you pair it with the right item. I’m wearing size US 2, which fits beautifully. This skirt also comes in leather and suede.

WHBM Petites :: Gingham Top + Distressed Jeans

Being 5’3, I love when a brand introduces a petites collection! Over the years, I’ve grown accustomed to adding in an alterations budget when I shop for clothes. A lot of the items I wear need to be altered in some way, usually, a hem will do. However, sometimes an item requires extensive work. I love White House Black Market because they have items you can wear both to work and on the weekends. Now, there is WHBM Petites and I could not be happier! Their petite clothing is for women who are 5’4 or shorter, regardless of their size. So what makes an item petite? It’ll have a shortened sleeve, narrowed shoulders, raised waist, shorter skirt length and a reduced pant inseam. Yay for putting my alterations budget toward my savings!

Gingham Shorts Dressed Up with Ruffles

Gingham is one of my favorite patterns during warmer months. There’s something about the pattern screaming quintessential American. These blue gingham shorts caught my eye the moment I saw them. While they are cut into a more casual shape and resemble fancy track shorts, they can easily be dressed up or down.
