I’m Hoang-Kim, a twenty-something TV Journalist who loves being a storyteller. I love colorful things and believe there truly is beauty and inspiration in everything. Being creative is important to me, so Color & Chic is one of the ways for me to express it. I do a lot of nonprofit work with my own 501c3 called Legacy Organization of Vietnamese Enrichment (L.O.V.E.) and I’m extremely passionate about it. My family immigrated to America from Communist Vietnam so we could live in a country with freedom, justice and human rights. I’m so grateful to them for having the bravery and courage to do so. I hope you enjoy getting to know me.
What is your “day” job?
I’m a reporter and anchor for a local TV station. I absolutely love what I do! It’s such an adrenaline rush covering breaking news, but I love being able to tell impactful stories. My favorite story I’ve done was on the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. I got fly in the back seat of an F/A 18 fighter and it was the best day of my life. You can watch the GoPro footage below and read about my experience here. In this business, us journalists tend to move quite a bit, so you’ll get to see my style and lifestyle change as I move to pursue my career!
What did you study in college?
I majored in the highly competitive field of Broadcast Journalism at the University of Texas. While there I also interned at a local TV station and was a fellow at CBS News in New York. Studying at UT really helped prepare me to be a successful journalist.
If you had one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Tailoring your clothes to fit your body! I cannot express how much of a difference this makes. There is nothing wrong with your body, embrace it and work it. It is impossible to expect standard sizes, which were measured out decades ago, to fit every single person perfectly. I alter 90 percent of my clothes and encourage everyone to do so to avoid losing self-esteem over a pair of pants. You’d be surprised the difference a little needle and thread can make.
What is your nutrition and workout plan?
When I was training for Miss USA, I was on a very strict nutrition plan and workout regimen. Now, I eat vegetarian about 90 percent of the time and stay away from greasy foods. I eat a lot of fruits, veggies, grains and plenty of water. As far as working out, I like to do cardio at least two times a week where I run intervals for 45 minutes. I also do bodyweight exercises too. You don’t have to workout for hours on end to get a healthy body.
